A Review: Huggies iGoPotty Potty Training App
11July 29, 2012 by CassieCravings
Little Eli and I have had a crash course in potty training for the last few weeks. It has been….well, it has been quite the adventure.
I am thrilled to say that my little man has ditched the diaper for good!
We did it! It was messy, frustrating, patience-threatening, and it was worth it. Eli is so proud of his accomplishments, as he should be. He stuck with it when he didn’t know if it would be worth it. He trusted that I knew the end result better than he did. And now he struts about in his big boy “un-wears.”
One of my favorite tools used during the potty training process has been the Huggies iGo Potty app.
What I love
The timer on this app is really handy for busy moms that lose track of who went potty when. The portability is only limited to your phone. The timer keeps everyone consistent whether you’re at home, visiting Grancie or on a play date.
The timer is designed as a potty calling the trainee. Parents can pick a ring tone. We used the “I’m a big kid now.” ring tone. You can’t beat words of affirmation in a catchy tune! When the timer goes off, there is a picture of a potty “calling” your little one reminding him/her of potty time. There is an “answer” and a “not now” option.
What Eli loves
Eli’s favorite aspect of the entire app was when he got to check off that he went potty. A trumpet-like sound blasts and says, “Good job!” There was much fist-pumping and potty victory dancing every time we heard this.
Eli also received a virtual sticker with every success. He adored watching his chart fill up. After approximately 9 successes, he earned a game. Those games were sometimes used as leverage to get him to sit still on the potty. The games were perfectly designed to keep a 2-3 year old occupied.
They included a delightfully noisy animal sounds game and a colorful finger painting game. The third and final game is a sequence game of what to do when we feel we need to go potty. This was the only game that he could not operate on his own, but it provided a great opportunity to go over what we do when when we feel we need to go potty. I was very surprised at how quickly Eli picked up the sequence and was able to verbalize each step.
What could be better
The progress chart is great in theory. It features a pictograph that tracks how many times the trainee successfully uses the potty. One successful potty time equals one picture of a potty. There is even an option to share the chart through email. My issue with the progress chart was accuracy. For example: It would lump Day 1 into Day and leave Day 3 blank. When in actuality all three days should have been fairly evenly spread. As far as I could tell, the number of successes were correct. They were just on the wrong days.
Is it worth it?
I found this app to be an instrumental tool in Eli’s success while potty training. It kept me on track and consistent with the timer. it kept Eli interested with the positive reinforcements through encouraging words, stickers and games.
Even though Eli has graduated from needing this app, every now and then he will still ask to tell his “potty on ‘da phone” that he went potty. This was a fun and creative way to approach potty training. I would absolutely recommend this app to anyone who has just begun or who is in the middle of the process of potty training.
To top it all off, this app is free!
Happy potty training!
Way to go Eli!!!!
Thank you! I’m so proud of him!! Once he was ready to potty train, he conquered it in a matter of a couple of weeks! 🙂
Congrats! So great to be on the other side of diapers. This app would have been a hoot in my house. And it would have saved me from endless rounds of “Potty Party.”
Thank you! I am so proud of my little guy!
You should have seen my face when I found this app. I about busted out into the potty celebration dance! I thought, “My world just got awesome!”
We both really loved it! 🙂
Way to go Eli! AND Mama! :))
Cool!
Thanks! It’s a fun app! 🙂
Wow! That is terrific and the timer is wonderful! I will definitely be passing this along to my kids and using it with our two yr old grandaughter , thanks so much!
Thank you! It has been a really great tool. It’s not perfect, but it has some valuable aspects. 🙂
I need an iGoMow app for your little brother.
Bahahahaha!! You should design one. You would make millions from other papas.
