A Heart Like His

My precious Eli has started another year of preschool. I can’t believe how much he has grown during this summer season!

Eli and I have a little ritual that we go through on our way to school each morning. I started this on his first day when he was just a baby. Every morning we will pray, teach our verse and say positive affirmations. It’s a simple routine. I started this so that he would have a positive start to every  morning. I soon realized that I needed the ritual just as much, if not more, than he did.

As we drove to school on our first day, we began our prayer.

“Dear Lord, thank you for our day. We thank You for all of our blessings. There are so many, we can’t even count them! We pray for a great first day of school. We pray that Eli will be a wonderful friend. We pray that he will have a heart for learning. We pray that he will be a blessing to his teacher….”

Before I could continue, I heard a little voice from the backseat. I glanced back to see his head bowed, his hands folded.

Baby Eli said, “Dears God. T’anks you for my fwriends. I be nice. I be share. Give Mollie and Trenton greats day.”

Oh to have a heart like Eli’s. I still have a lot to learn from you, my little man.

And God, I also pray that I be nice and I be share today as well.

Amen.
