The Day we Met the Neighbors
42October 1, 2012 by CassieCravings
We are in the process of moving. We are buying our first house and are feeling all of the excitement and stresses that come with such a big step for our family.
Just a few days ago, we were in the process of moving boxes. One mountain of boxes in our old house gradually became another mountain of boxes in our new house.
We were sweaty, our arms ached, and we were happy. Eli bounced from room-to-room declaring each one as his own. HeΒ somersaulted through the empty rooms and raced his tricycle from one end to the next.
We were beginning to wind down our box marathon, when I noticed a collection of neighbors standing outside of the house.
I began my rounds of “How are you?” and “Yes, it is a nice neighborhood.” Each neighbor was introduced and their homes pointed out.
One neighbor smiled and said, “So, you have kids.”
I replied, “Oh yes,we have one. Little Eli is 2 1/2. He is…” I turned to find him.
And there he stood, his pants and his choo-choo train underwear hanging about his ankles. His hands were on his hips and he laughed at the breeze tickling his bare skin. His grin stretched from ear-to-ear as he exclaimed, “Look, Mama! I tee-tees the grass.”
Yes, perfect little suburban neighborhood with houses all in a row, we are moving in. And we’re bringing the 2 year-old with us.
Oh Eli!!!!!!
I know right. And the only thing I could think to do in response was to ask the neighbor I was closest to, “So, do you have boys?”
Man, oh man!
It’s a little boy’s right to claim his yard. Congrats and good luck settling in.
LOL! Well he certainly claimed it for everyone to see. haha
So perfect!!!
Nothing like those mama moments to keep us young!
Hahahaha!! Welcome to the neighborhood! That’s hilarious!!
I thought you would be proud of your godson for his antics. LOL!
hahahahah! Thank you for sharing this!!!! hahaha! So awesome.
π He is a mess, isn’t he? He certainly keeps me on my toes. Lol
Hahah that’s hilarious!
Lol. I couldn’t believe it when I saw it. Of course, my first thought was, “I’m SO going to post this.”
did he at least have on stylish underwear? haha.
He had on his Thomas the Train undies π Those are his favorites. We only 546467234 packages of them. Lol
haha. When did you start potty training? We got some of those ‘big boy’ underwear for Avery’s birthday… scared me… oh crap, potty training is around the corner!
We started this summer. It took around a month to really be comfortable with him going out in his big boy undies.
Here’s a few posts, that I did on our experiences:

Good luck! It’s messy, but it’s also really rewarding. I found that we bonded quite a bit through the whole process.
Awe thanks!
No problem! I felt a bit lost for the first bit of potty training. There was so much info and so many criticisms that I wasn’t sure what to do. It wasn’t something that I was sure on, like other parenting decisions. Anyway, what ever timeline or method you choose that works for your family, you rock it. π
haha thanks. I’m still battling with Avery to get him to sleep thru the night, so I’m not shy to sticking to things. I’ll read some more of your posts and once we think he’s ready, we’ll go for it! π
Hahaha!!! Bless his heart
My poor neighbors. They were so embarrassed. I felt awful…maybe not exactly awful, but kind of close anyway π
haha, great first impression! They must be so excited for Little Eli to move into the neighborhood!
Who wouldn’t be? He’s the life of the party! Lol
Hahaa, love it. Did you take a picture? And, congratulations on the big move! Home ownership is stressful, a pain frequently, but most of all, so fulfilling to be HOME!
I mostly just stood there with my jaw dropped. Lol! We’re very excited. It will be wonderful to have it finally done and the paperwork signed and to be officially home :))
Yes! Such a cute boy, I assume everyone was suitably charmed!
Lol! He certainly made quite the impression.
I love this story!! Haha! At least your neighbors won’t forget who you are π
Lol! That is the truth. π
How funny and awful at the same time – kind of like raising kids often is! π
Lol! So true! I was mortified, but I couldn’t help but giggle.
It’s just like being in the movie “Stepford’s Wives” π
LOL! It certainly is. I couldn’t get Suburgatory out of my head. I’m sure my stifled giggles made all of the neighbors question my sanity….then my kid urinated in the yard. So, you know, it could have been worse. π
ohhh! so precious child π must have been quite the impression you made π
At least they’ll remember us! π
indeed! π
What a honest way to be connected with your new neighbors! Fun. real. Thanks for stopping by Life Beyond the Picket Fence!
It was definitely honest and real π
Absolutely! Thank you.
lol, great first impression! Great story and thanks for sharing!
haha! They won’t forget us! π
Somehow I’d missed this one but found it this morning when cleaning up my inbox. I laughed SO hard! Your Eli is such a little character! Never a dull moment, huh?
Ha! He is certainly a mess! There is never a dull moment with my little guy. He keeps me on my toes π
