“Hellos. I, Eli, ams a doctor. You’s sick?”

He gave my arm a sympathetic pat and crawled over me to settle into bed. He was wearing a pink stethoscope around his forehead. I stifled a giggle.
“‘Dis is yours checkup. I’s check your eyes. I’s check your ears. I’s gives you one kiss, two kiss. You better?”
“I am much better. You are a wonderful doctor, Eli.”
“Oh, t’anks. I’s go watch cartoons.”
