Let us Happy Dance: A Story of Home Ownership
32November 12, 2012 by CassieCravings
The word of the day is FINALLY!
We have FINALLY closed on our house and are officially home owners! It has happened; we are officially grown ups.
It was bittersweet moving from the only home that little Eli has known. We brought him home when he was only a few days old to our little duplex. His first Christmas was celebrated under what we affectionately called our Charlie Brown tree. He took his first steps on those floors. He drew chalk masterpieces on that back porch. There are countless memories in that little home. Some are cherished, some are dreadful and most of them are messy. It was our first home as a family.
Now we start this new chapter with this new home. It is more than twice the size of our duplex. In fact, some rooms still sit empty. Right now they seem cold and unfamiliar. We will fill them eventually both with furniture and with new memories and traditions.
While this isn’t Eli’s first home, it will be the home that holds his first memories. It will be the home where he learns to ride a bicycle and how to throw the perfect spiral. At the kitchen table, he will learn to read and practice math flashcards. His growth will be measured in notches on the door-frame.
The new page in our life is an exciting one, a messy one and one that is desperate need of a label maker and some serious organization.

CONGRATS!!! Your new home looks lovely!!! How are you settling in? Boxes everywhere? How does Eli like the new house?
Thank you! Boxes are shoved in closets so that they don’t look like they are everywhere π
Eli ADORES it. He is excited to go home. He still calls it the new house and refers sometimes to the “other house”, but he loves his room. His papa (my dad) painted all of the rooms in the house before we moved in, so we brought Eli over pretty often to introduce him to the new house. It has a big backyard that he calls the “park”. It’s his favorite place to be π
Oh that’s great that you brought him over before you moved in!
He tends to be slow to warm up. So, we wanted to make sure that he had time to explore and get excited about it. Even though the sale dragged out forever, I’m glad that Eli could get used to the entire move thingy.
Congratulations!!! Beautiful home
Thank you so much! :))
