Our family lives in Katy, Texas which is one of the areas heavily affected by Hurricane Harvey. The Hurricane blew in on Friday night. It is currently Tuesday afternoon, and it’s still raining, y’all.
This has been (and continues to be) a devastating event for the Houston area. We will not even be sure of all the destruction until the waters finally recede. So many of my loved ones have been evacuated or are stuck in their neighborhoods and homes.
We have been some of the lucky ones with water draining from our streets and no flooding. We even have power. We are hunkered down with plenty of food and water and will wait out the storm. We are safe. We are so very fortunate.
While we are waiting out Hurricane Harvey, Elijah has recorded a video for Hurricane Harvey Book Club on facebook. This group was created by a local teacher who wanted to give residents of our area an activity to do that is a break from the worry and the hurt our city is experiencing.
7 year-old Eli was supposed to start 2nd grade this week, but schools have been cancelled due to the hurricane. We are not sure how long they will be out. This activity of simply recording himself reading a book brought big smiles to my little boy.
Eli’s message to his friends and other Houstonians, “I chose a super hero book, because I feel like there are so many heroes in Houston right now.”
