Home Away from Home: The St. Anthony in San Antonio

Our little family is a frequent visitor of San Antonio, and our place to stay of choice is hands-down The St. Anthony.
It’s historical, beautiful, in the perfect location (within a couple of blocks of the Alamo) and the staff goes out of their way to be accommodating.
This time around, they are doing some renovations which blocked off two of my favorite spots in the entire hotel: the entry stairwell (We’re talking Gone with the Wind gorgeous, y’all!) and the roof-top pool (my favorite chill spot in all of San Antonio). While I was bummed about this, we ended up getting a $50 credit to a meal in their dining room.
While I’m not one to go on about hotel dining, Coach had (and shared) the most delicious ribs and risotto. Eli and I chowed down on a turkey club with avocado and apple. That was a life changing sandwich, my friends!
My favorite parts of the St. Anthony are:
* the historical integrity maintained in the building. It is breathtaking! My little pictures do not do it justice what-so-ever.
*the staff. Everyone we encountered who was employed by the St. Anthony was incredibly friendly and helpful. They really showed off their southern manners! On our floor, there were rooms that were being ripped down to the studs. Eli got to peek (from the doorway) into one of the rooms. One of the gentlemen doing construction pointed out different elements of the bare room. I thought it was very kind of him to go out of his way to spend a few moments allowing my son to learn about the inner-workings of a building.
*the location. Across the street is a lovely park which makes for spectacular views. Like I mentioned, it is blocks
